Moving on up....to the South side?

Before we get into the new house, lets take a look at the old house, shall we? I really wish that when Ryan had moved into that house we had of taken before pictures.  It was pretty bad.  The living room walls looked like somebody had tried to do some sort of artistic puttying, but got bored or lazy half way through and then decided to not even paint the walls....it was bad.  We had to sand down all of the walls to get rid of the putty before we painted it. Anywho, these pictures are all from move out day.

This is it.  Just a wee lil gaffer.  We will call it the baby house.  820 square feet or something ridiculous, with an unfinished basement that wasn't full height, so it was only used for laundry and storage.

Here is one reason why I wish that I had more pictures.  This entrance way is connected to another mud room like room.  That's the room that's sticking out in the exterior picture of the house.  It was gross when Ryan moved in.  There was carpet in both of the rooms, which is always a terrible idea in an entrance way.  So we put in new linoleum flooring and painted.  It made it look so much better and cleaner.  Add a hall tree and a bench and the uninsulated room looked useful!
This is the living room.  Everything in this house looked better with furniture of course.  Mostly because the stained carpet was covered up!

The big bedroom. It was actually a really decent size.  That little alcove there fit an upright dresser, so it was nice having at least one piece of furniture out of the way.
Here is the kitchen.  Ryan put the wainscoting on the bottom half himself.  The paint was actually picked to match a painting that I had bought in the Dominican.  It was a bit bright, but wasn't too bad when there was white on the bottom half of the wall.
I loved the counter space in this kitchen.  For such a small house it was so spacious!  Excuse my dirtiness in the picture, remember it was cleaning day!

My mama cleaning the bathroom! Cleaning a house bites the big one when its not even you who gets to enjoy it...wonder if the 21 year old guy who moved in even realised how clean it was....doubtful.
Ryan making sure he didn't forget his indoor/outdoor thermometer.
Ryan fixed this cupboard up that was over the stairs.  It was pretty gross before.  Only problem was, it was too high to reach, this became a big issue when we realised that we had already moved all the chairs out of the house.  Brittney to the rescue!

So that's it! I didn't take pictures of the spare room (which we had been turning into a den before we decided to sell the house), or the basement.  Maybe that's for the best, I think that I would like to forget what that basement was really like!

What's in a name?

I feel as if the name of this blog needs a bit of an explanation.  Osbott, what the fire and brimstone kinda name is that?  (Mom had an issue with the use of the word "hell", so I looked up synonyms, fire and brimstone it is!) Anyways, Osbott isn't a name actually.  And when Ryan finds out that that's the name of the blog, he won't be happy!  Osbott is a combination of Ryan's last name (well mine now), and my maiden name.  I thought it was brilliant.  I still do! Ryan didn't think it was a funny joke.  But I feel that its a good depiction of who we are.  After 24 years, I can't just change my name and all of a sudden have a new identity.  I have been known by that name for 24 years!  I live in the same town as many other people with that name.  And when I tell people my name they say oh are you related to this person? Or is this your grandpa?

So now, we are a combination of these two families, and we will join our names! If I'm not allowed to legally join them, then I will join them in blog land! Ryan will learn to deal, just like how he will learn to deal with the kitten that we will be getting.

It's a new life!

So I’m starting a wee blog.  I have been inspired by a number of other blogs that I have found and think that it’s a great way to not only show others what we have been up to, but also so that we can track our progress ourselves.  This little blog will be about transforming our new home, and about daily life as newlyweds as well.  So here is an introduction to our lives.
The husband and I got married on November 5, 2011.  On October 9, 2011 we submitted an offer for a new house down the street from his current house.  It was not in our plans to buy a house a month before our wedding.  But we wanted to stay in our very small town, and knew we had to upgrade from his tiny 825 square foot home at some point.  It was the right house, right location, right price, so we had to do it.  It got somewhat complicated when they had 4 offers for the house, and although they accepted our offer, they came back a week later telling us that they had a better offer and that we had 48 hours to remove our condition that we had to sell Ryan’s house.  So we took the risk, and went through some stressful moments over owning 2 houses and not being able to afford it, but hopefully years from now we can look back and find this amusing!

The house was perfect….except for the interior décor.  We started by walking into the pepto room.  The living room had pink carpet, pink walls and pink curtains.  There were also pink floral couches, but luckily those did not stay.  And that was just the start.  The whole house will have to be redone, so we are starting with the necessary things (like flooring and paint), and hopefully will work our way through a new kitchen, deck, updating bathrooms etc.  Hence the blog!
So I hope you enjoy this little blog of ours.  And just so that I feel  like I’m not stealing ideas from other blogs here are the links to the awesome blogs that got me hooked on the idea of blogging.  All these ladies (and man) are amazing writers and do great jobs with their sites, so check them out!
