Sprinkling Baby B

This past Sunday there was a "sprinkle" for my cousin Crystal, who is due in March with her second baby.  Her first baby is 6, (almost 7 I think! where does the time go!) so we are very excited about this new addition!  (Okay I would have been excited regardless of her older child's age, because babies are always exciting!)

Her friends had an amazing idea for this Sprinkle, to hold a Refind Salvage Rustic Sign Workshop.  First of all, for those who don't know, a Sprinkle is kind of a low key baby shower when someone is having their second (or third or fourth...) baby.

I have always wanted to do one of these workshops and it was so much fun! First of all, it was held at the Elora Centre for the Arts.  This used to be Elora Junior Public School, which was where I went to school until Grade 4.  It was so neat to go back into the building, and actually create my sign in my old Grade 2 classroom!  This building is really neat and is a great atmosphere for these workshops.  It's an old building, with nice hardwood floors and huge rooms.  It has so much character.  The room was set up with a big table in the middle for our signs, but also had a nice little corner with some seating where Crystal could open some gifts.

It takes about 3 hours to make the signs, but there are breaks in there as you need to wait for paint to dry and such.  So we could chat and snack and take our time.  It's actually really low key, and although the Type A in me found some aspects stressful, it really was pretty simple.  Mandy, the owner of Refind, made the whole process fun and easy!  Everyone's signs turned out really well!

The great part about these workshops is that you get to pick your own sign.  So you aren't stuck with something that you really don't want because everyone can choose a sign that suits their home or their personality.
I would highly recommend attending one of these workshops with a friend or two or if you have a lot of friends then you can book your own private workshop like we did!

Gold Medal Game

On Sunday, Canada played against Sweden in the Olympic Gold Medal Game.  It started at 7am but that didn't stop us!  We had a party anyways!

Even the dog was cheering on Canada!
To be honest, I'm not a hockey lover.  (So un-Canadian of me!)  But I can enjoy the patriotism and the coming together of friends and family that hockey can bring, so of course I was there!

To be honest again, I didn't watch a lot of the game...and I missed all of the goals.  That's typical for me though, I swear I'm better luck when I'm not paying attention.

We had so much food...
And we won!  3-0.  But if the Women's gold medal game taught us anything, it was to not get too confident that we were going to win.  Anything can happen!

The moment we won
We had a bunch of family there and a few friends and it was nice to be with people for this important event in Canadian history!

And just like that the Olympics are over.  Although not on top of the medal count, Canada did come in 3rd place (when counting by number of golds) or 4th place if you want to go by over all medals.  But for this little country with a population of 35 million people I think that's pretty impressive!  (You know what's more impressive, Norway came in second and have a population of 5 million people, wow!)  I love the olympics because they bring not only the entire country together, but the whole world.

But the Olympics are about more than just medals.  We had some amazing stories come out of them that show who our Canadians really are and remind us of why we love our country.

Oh well, at least now I can maybe get some stuff done on weekends again.

Ploptastic

If you have been a long time reader of this blog, or know me personally, you may have heard of the Plunger Plop.

Every year, my town has this ridiculous event.  It's kind of like curling or horseshoes, but it takes place on an outdoor rink, and we throw plungers at toilets, hoping to get a "ringer" which means that the plunger has actually landed in the toilet.
That's a lot of plungers

If may sound crazy to some, but it's a day that we all look forward to.  We had 8 teams of people coming back to our house in between games and once the festivities were over.  There was of course a lot of food and the odd adult beverage.  Everyone throws plungers better after a few beers.  (Even me, and this is probably the one and only time this year that I will actually drink.)
The She-Wolves
Honestly we have so much fun at this event every year.  I'm not going to lie, I'm fairly competitive and my dream is to win it.  As Coach Jim said on CTV news, you want to win this and "gain worldwide recognition."  Ok so maybe this isn't the olympics, and maybe the recognition isn't worldwide, but it's definitely something that you would never forget.

The Best Way Ever to Spend Your Money

We had an expensive weekend over here at the Osbott house.  We redid our roof!  I was just kidding about that fun way to spend your money thing.  A roof is the least fun way I know to spend a bunch of money.  It's a lot of work and you don't really get any enjoyment out of it besides not having a leaky house.

However, we were extremely lucky that we have some great friends and family who were willing to help us out with it on Friday and Saturday.  Doing the roof yourself significantly cuts costs and so we are so appreciative to everyone who came out to help.

My assistance came in the form of food.  I bought the food and made some of the food.  Ryan's mom brought some as well an we cooked up a bunch of hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone at lunch.  Moral of the story, to get people to help you, make sure you provide them with sufficient beer and food.  But not too much beer, they are on a roof after all.
It was touch and go for a while as twice during the day there was a pretty big thunder storm.  This resulted in a few wet spots in our house as it kind of came out of nowhere the first time and the roof wasn't fully tarped.  But luckily, they didn't last long and they were able to finish the roof.
It's nice that it's done and we don't have to worry about it anymore.  Now we can think about spending our money on something that is a bit more fun - a new deck!

Pipsi had a rough day running around the house playing with my mother in law and brother and trying to figure out where all that noise was coming from!  So she was totally wiped out by the end of the day!  It's exhausting being a cat she says.
